Getting oxygen into the blood

Clinically: Pulmonary gas exchange

What normal looks like

At rest most adults breathe about twelve to twenty times a minute without thinking about it, and blood leaves the lungs almost fully loaded with oxygen. Breathing gets deeper and faster with exercise and settles within minutes of stopping.

In clinical terms

Diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide across the alveolar-capillary membrane.
